"REIGN OVER ME"

starring Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle.

Adam Sandler plays Charlie Fineman, a disturbed New Yorker who is haunted by the trauma of 911. His wife and daughters were passengers on one of the planes that flew into the WTC. Don Cheadle plays Alan Johnson, Charlie's old college buddy.

Charlie is prone to sudden irrational bursts of temper, smashing objects and attacking people. Alan tries to prevent him, but seems unable to do so. In the end, we learn that the solution is to show Charlie understanding and a little TLC, and he'll come around.

The movie is a metaphor: Charlie represents the United States, suffering temporary Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Charlie smashes furniture, America smashes countries. Iraq? AMURKA BASH! Afghanistan? AMURKA CRUSH! IRAN? GRnnnrgh!!! SMASH!!!!!!

I believe that Don Cheadle's character (an apparent re-working of the "Magical Negro"), represents Barack Obama. Elect Barack, the film is telling us, and he'll be everyone's M.N., and help America through its temporary insanity. Then, we'll all get BJs from Saffron Burrowes.

I can live with that.
